This morning, a technical misinformation incident involving IM Motors and Xiaomi's cars exploded on Weibo's hot search.
At the IM L6 super smart sedan launch event held on April 8, IM Motors claimed that it adopted dual silicon carbide electric drive technology for both front and rear, forming a competitive comparison with Xiaomi's SU7 Max version.
However, that evening, Xiaomi's car product manager, Pan Xiaowen, clarified on Weibo that the entire Xiaomi SU7 series universally utilizes silicon carbide technology, including the front and rear electric drives as well as the vehicle's charging system and thermal management system compressor.
Subsequently, IM's Joint CEO Liu Tao publicly admitted the mistake, acknowledging the misinformation at the launch event, and apologized to Xiaomi Motors and the public.
A spokesperson for Xiaomi urged IM to immediately make a public clarification and issue a formal apology, not accepting informal, downplayed apologies. At one o'clock in the morning, the Xiaomi spokesperson stated that their patience for IM's harassment and smear tactics was limited. If a formal apology from IM was not forthcoming, they would take legal action to protect their rights.
In this incident, IM Motors also issued an apology letter in the wee hours, acknowledging the key parameter error caused by the team's content review oversight and sincerely apologizing to Xiaomi Motors and all fans and users.
In the apology letter, IM Motors clarified that both the front and rear motors of the Xiaomi SU7 Max version use SIC silicon carbide modules, the same as the technology used by IM L6, both representing industry-leading technology standards. IM Motors also expressed respect and apologies to Xiaomi Motors, deeply regretting the negative impact caused by internal review oversights.
