Chinese tech giants are seeking new ways to obtain advanced artificial intelligence computing power.
According to The Wall Street Journal, ByteDance plans to deploy a large-scale AI computing cluster based on Nvidia's Blackwell chips in Southeast Asia. This project may become one of the largest AI computing power centers built overseas by Chinese internet companies.
36,000 Blackwell Chips
According to insiders, the project will deploy approximately 500 sets of Blackwell systems in Malaysia, totaling about 36,000 B200 GPUs.
The servers are manufactured by Aivres and provided through cloud computing company Aolani Cloud. If fully realized, the hardware cost may exceed $2.5 billion.
Bypassing AI Chip Restrictions
This deployment reflects that Chinese tech companies are gaining advanced computing power through overseas cloud infrastructure.
In recent years, the United States has imposed strict restrictions on the export of high-end AI chips, especially targeting the Chinese market. By building computing power centers outside of China, Chinese companies can continue AI model training and global business expansion.
