US stocks had a mixed session on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining 195 points while AI-linked shares Micron Technology, Sandisk and Nvidia retreated. Apple and Meta Platforms moved higher. Major index futures were little changed ahead of Tuesday’s open, as investors weighed whether technology shares could extend their gains and whether the pullback in chip stocks would deepen.
Micron falls below its 50-day average; Sandisk extends slide
Micron Technology fell 3.9% on Monday, closing below its 50-day moving average for the first time since September 16. The stock is still forming a cup-with-handle base, with a technical buy point of $1,108.72. Investors will be watching whether it can reclaim the moving average and continue developing the pattern.
Sandisk, also in the memory-chip sector, dropped 6% for a third consecutive decline, moving further below its 50-day moving average. The simultaneous losses in Micron and Sandisk have shifted attention to the scale of the sector’s pullback and where their share prices may find support.
Nvidia posts a fourth straight decline
Nvidia lost 1.3% on Monday, its fourth consecutive daily decline, and was trading well below the $234.76 buy point for its cup-with-handle base. The continued slide has widened the gap between the stock and that technical level as AI-related shares came under pressure.
Reports over the weekend of an “energy ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine were part of the market backdrop. US President Donald Trump announced the arrangement. Technology shares nevertheless moved in different directions on Monday, with chipmakers falling while some large-cap technology stocks advanced.
Apple and Meta move higher
Apple rose 1.3%, drawing closer to a handle buy point of $345.34. The stock briefly moved above a $344.57 cup-base buy point on September 22; investors are now watching whether it can hold its strength near the newer technical level.
Meta Platforms gained 3.4%, breaking above a more aggressive buy trigger at $747.60. The handle buy point in its larger consolidation pattern is $779.82. Their gains contrasted with the weakness in chip stocks, underscoring the divergence among large technology companies.
Index futures little changed ahead of Tuesday’s open
The Dow gained 195 points on Monday as AI-linked shares posted mixed results. Major index futures showed little movement before Tuesday’s session. Market participants will be watching whether Micron, Sandisk and Nvidia can halt their declines, and whether Apple and Meta can sustain Monday’s gains near or above their respective technical levels. These buy points are technical-analysis reference levels; subsequent share-price performance will depend on market trading.
