According to insiders, the associated company of the now-defunct UK mortgage lender Market Financial Solutions (MFS) owes Barclays Bank about £500 million ($1.05 billion) in debt, which is lower than the £600 million debt amount previously announced by a judge. These insiders requested anonymity to disclose this information.
Notably, Barclays Bank's debt exceeds that of Atlas SP Partners, a subsidiary of Apollo Global Management (approximately £400 million), and Elliott Investment Management (about £200 million). The bankruptcy case of MFS is overseen by the court due to allegations of fraud and double pledging of assets.
MFS has filed for bankruptcy with the presiding judge, accusing improper conduct in asset management. As this case progresses, all parties and creditors will be closely observing the court's handling of the debt and bankruptcy application.
