Meta Platforms announced its artificial intelligence chip development plan, launching four new MTIA processors to support data center expansion and the growth of AI applications.
The MTIA 300 is already in use, primarily powering recommendation algorithm systems, while the MTIA 450 and 500 will focus on AI inference computing.
Yee Jiun Song, the company's Vice President of Engineering, stated that with the widespread adoption of generative AI applications, the demand for inference computing power is experiencing explosive growth.
Parallel Procurement and Self-Development
Meta stated that it will continue to procure chips from Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices in the future, while strengthening its own design capabilities.
The company also collaborates with Broadcom for part of the chip design and uses Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company for wafer manufacturing.
Continued Expansion in Data Center Investment
Meta plans to release a new chip every six months to meet the computing power demands brought by platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
The company expects its capital expenditure this year to be between $115 billion and $135 billion, reflecting the ongoing increase in competition among tech giants in AI infrastructure.
