Summary:OpenAI completed a $110 billion funding round at a $730 billion valuation, accelerating its investment in computing power and AI infrastructure.

OpenAI announced the completion of a funding round totaling $110 billion, bringing the company's valuation to $730 billion, representing the largest funding for the ChatGPT developer to date. Including the new funds, the post-funding valuation is approximately $840 billion. This round of financing aims to support the company's ongoing investment in computing infrastructure, data center construction, and artificial intelligence talent. In this funding round, Amazon.com invested $50 billion, marking its largest investment in a single company. SoftBank Group and Nvidia each invested $30 billion. OpenAI stated that these funds would be used to expand computing capabilities and support AI model development.

Strengthening Cloud Computing and Chip Cooperation

According to the agreement, OpenAI will use Amazon's self-developed AI chip, Trainium, and jointly develop customized models with Amazon's engineering team. Meanwhile, OpenAI plans to invest an additional $100 billion in Amazon Web Services cloud services over the next eight years. Previously, both parties had agreed to use approximately $38 billion of AWS services over seven years.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that Amazon could bring new market demand and business opportunities to the company. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy also noted that the collaboration is expected to provide significant returns for Amazon in the long term.

Microsoft Relationship Remains Stable Amid Intensified AI Industry Competition

Microsoft stated that its partnership with OpenAI remains unchanged, with no changes to contractual terms following this funding. Meanwhile, OpenAI's competitor Anthropic completed approximately $30 billion financing earlier this month, with a post-funding valuation of $380 billion. Both companies have raised substantial funds this year to support high-cost AI infrastructure, such as chip procurement and data center construction.

The AI Ecosystem Enters a "Cyclic Financing" Model

Industry observers pointed out that the investment and procurement relationships among leading AI companies and cloud computing and chip suppliers are forming a cyclic financing structure. Such collaborations help meet the vast infrastructure demands of the AI industry, but if market demand grows below expectations, it could amplify cost pressures and financial risks.

In an interview, Altman stated that the sustainability of this collaborative model depends on whether the AI ecosystem continues to generate new revenue sources, emphasizing that the current focus remains on expanding computing power to meet the demand for ChatGPT and other products.
