Yuga Labs has launched Mudwater, a physical and digital trading card game featuring Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) artwork. The cards are issued on Solana, while BAYC NFTs remain on Ethereum. The collection is capped at 10,000 boxes, with BAYC and MAYC holders receiving priority access to packs—linking NFT ownership on Ethereum to game assets on Solana.
BAYC and MAYC holders receive priority pack claims
Yuga Labs airdropped one Totem to each BAYC and MAYC token. Holders must use a Totem to claim their packs. Totems use the Ethereum ERC-6551 standard, which gives an NFT its own wallet.
Claim allowances vary by collection: each BAYC unlocks 10 packs, while each MAYC unlocks two. A pack contains 10 cards, and a box contains 24 packs. At the 10,000-box limit, Mudwater could include up to 240,000 packs, or 2.4 million cards.
BAYC holders are eligible to claim a combined 100,000 packs. That means the 10,000 BAYC NFTs alone account for about 42% of the full collection's pack allocation before open-market pricing begins. The structure gives NFT holders an early route to the cards, while claim activity and any subsequent trading prices will be determined by market participants.
Eight one-of-one cards lead the rarity tiers
Yuga Labs says the collection includes eight Bored Ape cards in a numbered 1/1 “cracked-ice” edition, with only one copy of each. BAYC describes them as the collection's rarest cards. Mudwater also features 120 BAYC artworks, foil cards, and both physical and digital versions.
The cards are already trading on OpenSea, with Totems and packs listed in separate collections. The team also plans to let holders upgrade packs into boxes and cases at a later date. Mudwater's release combines NFT-based claim rights, card scarcity and secondary-market trading: BAYC remains on Ethereum, while the card game operates on Solana.
