Development History
Since its inception, The Business Times has undergone multiple developmental phases. Initially, the paper was a supplement of The Straits Times, with Patrick Daniel as the editor-in-chief.
Later, it began independent publication on January 1, 1977, with five issues per week. On July 2, 1984, it expanded its layout and added more content and columns, publishing six issues per week. On September 1, 1986, a weekend edition was launched with added content on lifestyle, entertainment, and travel.
On April 3, 1995, it became the first Chinese daily in Singapore to appear online. A major redesign took place on May 3, 2004, enhancing layout, color, fonts, and design, along with new columns. On May 9, 2005, an electronic edition and archive services were launched, providing the same content and layout as the print edition, along with an archive of the past seven days.
On July 28, 2008, another redesign introduced new columns and content. On November 1, 2010, a mobile application was launched offering real-time financial news, data, and videos. On October 1, 2013, the 37th anniversary was celebrated with the launch of a new website and mobile application. The 40th anniversary was celebrated on October 1, 2016, with the launch of a new electronic edition and archive services.
