With interest rates still elevated and major indexes moving in different directions, Mastercard (MA) closed higher for a seventh consecutive session on Monday and was added to IBD Big Cap 20. Rival Visa (V) reached a record high despite not appearing on the featured watchlist, while Suncor Energy approached a level last seen in May 2008. The moves underscored how individual stocks can diverge from the broader market.
Mastercard joins IBD Big Cap 20
Mastercard extended its recent advance on Monday, bringing its share price closer to its 2026 high. IBD added the payments company to Big Cap 20, a list that tracks large-cap stocks. Inclusion reflects a change to the screening list; it is not a guarantee of future share-price performance.
Other payments stocks had a mixed showing. Visa set an all-time high on Monday but was not among the featured stocks highlighted in the update. The two payment networks therefore illustrated how a stock's performance on the day may not match its presence on a particular screening list.
Chime and Penguin Solutions enter IBD lists
Online payments software company Chime Financial (CHYM) was added to IPO Leaders. The company launched its initial public offering in June of last year. Artificial intelligence-related company Arista Networks (ANET) joined Mastercard in Big Cap 20, while Penguin Solutions (PENG), which serves AI data centers and memory systems, was added to IBD 50.
The lists cover different groups of stocks: IPO Leaders focuses on more recently listed companies, Big Cap 20 on large-cap names, and IBD 50 on leading growth stocks. The latest changes brought companies tied to payments, networking equipment and data centers into the updated screens.
Suncor nears a high last reached in 2008
Oil and gas exploration and production company Suncor Energy (SU) gained 1.8% on Monday. Its share price reached its highest level since May 2008, coming within 3 cents of that month's high. With major indexes posting mixed moves, Suncor was among the day's standout individual stocks.
IBD's stock screens are updated periodically, adding stocks that meet their criteria and removing names whose performance has started to weaken. The latest changes covered IBD 50, Sector Leaders, Big Cap 20 and IPO Leaders. The list updates reflect screening results; inclusion and a stock's daily market performance remain separate considerations.
