Prop Firm Match, a comparison site for proprietary trading firms, is facing questions over how it tracks affiliate referrals. Trader Kane alleged that clicks on company profiles or coupon-code buttons could redirect the browser’s original tab through an affiliate link. Apex Trader Funding, Tradeify, Topstep and Goat Funded Trader subsequently announced they were ending or had ended their partnerships with the platform. Prop Firm Match said it was investigating and would issue a full statement within 24 hours.
Trader alleges site clicks trigger affiliate redirects
In a video posted on X on October 29, Kane said that using features such as company profile pages and coupon-code buttons appeared to send the original browser tab through an affiliate link to a proprietary trading firm, while the page the user intended to open loaded in a new tab. He questioned whether this could record affiliate tracking information without users clicking a link clearly identified as external.
Kane used My Funded Futures (MFFU) as an example in the video, but his allegation concerned how Prop Firm Match operates; he did not accuse MFFU of participating in the practice. He said similar behavior could involve other firms listed on the site, but had not checked every page. The claims therefore remain based on a trader’s account, with the specific trigger mechanism and scope still unverified.
Apex, Tradeify and other firms cut ties
Apex Trader Funding said on October 30 that it had immediately ended its affiliate partnership with Prop Firm Match and disabled all related tracking codes. Apex said it made the decision after reviewing referral-tracking practices and whether they complied with its Affiliate Marketing Agreement. It did not disclose the review’s findings or explicitly say that Prop Firm Match had breached the agreement. The company said affiliate referrals should be transparent, accurately attributed and consistent with responsible marketing practices.
Tradeify said the same day that, after reviewing referral traffic to its website, it concluded Prop Firm Match had violated its affiliate terms and decided to end the partnership. Tradeify also said Prop Firm Match would no longer sponsor the Premier Trading League (PTL), and that it would review how its other affiliate partners generate referrals.
Goat Funded Trader also announced it had ended its affiliate partnership and disabled the related tracking codes following a review of referral-tracking practices. Topstep said it would end its relationship with the platform. Topstep executive Michael Patak said the company had been paying $10,000 a month for a placement on the site, where its highest ranking was sixth. He said he had heard that the top placement cost $100,000 a month; that figure was information relayed by Patak and has not been publicly confirmed by Prop Firm Match. Ending the arrangement will save Topstep $10,000 a month.
Affiliate rules and investigation remain unresolved
Prop Firm Match’s affiliate terms prohibit hidden iframe redirects, forced cookie placement and other methods of artificially generating referral records. The site also discloses that it earns commissions when users buy proprietary trading firm challenges through affiliate links or coupon codes. If clicks on site features do trigger tracking, the dispute centers on whether users are adequately informed, whether referrals are attributed accurately and whether the practices comply with platform rules and affiliate agreements.
Public information also names FundingPips, GFFutures, Lucid Trading, Take Profit Trader, Blue Guardian and Alpha Capital among firms that took action or distanced themselves from the platform. The specific steps taken by each firm differ. Prop Firm Match told Kane that it was investigating and would publish a full explanation within 24 hours; at the time of that response, it had not released its full findings. Whether the allegations are substantiated, how the tracking works and how commissions will be handled after the partnerships end remain to be clarified by the platform and the companies involved.
