OKX Implements Enhanced Anti-Money Laundering Scrutiny on Gambling-Linked Deposits
Cryptocurrency exchange OKX has rolled out strengthened anti-money laundering (AML) procedures targeting deposits linked to gambling activities. Founder and CEO Xu Xing revealed the platform now initiates AML investigations lasting up to 15 days on funds received from high-risk addresses. During this review period, affected accounts may face restrictions on certain functions and fund withdrawals. Confirmed involvement in illicit activity can lead to permanent account suspension.
High-Risk Channels Under Close Surveillance
Xu highlighted that OKX is focusing its monitoring efforts on transactions routed through Telegram guarantee groups and the so-called "Huione Guarantee" network along with its variants. These channels operate as escrow-style payment services, through which transaction volumes once reached up to $27 billion prior to regulatory intervention. In 2025, U.S. authorities severed Huione’s access to the American financial system, prompting a migration of volumes to successor platforms like Tudou Guarantee.
Xu stated: "Funds originating from these Telegram group escrow trades, the Huione network, and similar variants carry significantly heightened risk profiles."
OKX has previously screened wallets linked to Huione for compliance violations and committed to freezing assets or terminating accounts confirmed to be involved with illicit activities. This ongoing crackdown follows the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) action in October 2025 that disrupted Huione’s financial connectivity.
Reflecting Growing Industry AML Scrutiny
OKX’s intensified AML controls arrive amid rising regulatory focus on crypto money laundering worldwide. Security firm CertiK reports that AML enforcement now surpasses securities regulation as the industry's leading compliance concern. The exchange itself faced over $500 million in AML-related fines in the U.S. last year.
Xu acknowledged that the platform’s fraud prevention measures have occasionally ensnared legitimate users, referencing public backlash in July 2025 after account freezes.
The newly extended 15-day review window aims to strike a balance between curbing illegal fund inflows and preserving access for compliant users. Market participants and customers alike are watching closely to gauge the impact on OKX’s operational integrity and reputation.
OKX is implementing these stricter AML policies amid intensifying regulatory pressures to dismantle cross-border gambling and money laundering networks, thereby enhancing transaction safety and transparency on the platform.
