Palantir’s Commercial Revenue in US Nears Government Contracts
Palantir Technologies reported robust growth in its latest earnings, with US commercial revenue reaching $764 million in Q2 2026. This marks a remarkable 149% year-over-year increase and a 28% rise quarter-over-quarter. At the same time, government revenue for the US market was $809 million, growing 90% year-over-year and 18% compared to the previous quarter. The revenue gap between the two segments has narrowed to just $45 million, driven largely by the faster expansion within the commercial sector.
Commercial Sector Growth Could Reshape Revenue Mix by Late 2026
Based on the current quarter-on-quarter growth rates, commercial revenue is on track to hit approximately $980 million in Q3 2026, surpassing government revenue projected at $955 million for the same period. Palantir has raised its full-year US commercial revenue forecast to over $3.42 billion and adjusted its free cash flow guidance upward to a range between $4.5 billion and $4.7 billion. This reflects the increasing financial significance of its commercial operations within the overall business.
CEO Attributes Expansion to Rising Demand for 'AI Sovereignty'
CEO Alex Karp highlighted that the surge in commercial revenue is fueled by clients’ growing focus on "AI sovereignty"—the desire for enterprises to control their own data and operational decisions. While delays in large government contracts could postpone the crossover point, the company noted that the remaining value of commercial contracts has climbed 124% year-over-year to $6.2 billion. This underscores a strong and expanding commercial base, supporting expectations for sustained high growth.
Shifting Revenue Composition Will Influence Overall Growth Trajectory
As commercial business overtakes government contracts in revenue share, Palantir’s total growth rate is expected to accelerate, reflecting the faster pace typical of commercial customers. Presently, government contracts represent a larger portion of revenue but grow more slowly. This shift will also likely change market perceptions, moving focus away from the fluctuations tied to government budget cycles toward the broader commercial opportunity.
Investors Eye Third Quarter Earnings for Confirmation
The anticipated surpassing of government revenue by the commercial segment is set to be confirmed in the third-quarter earnings report scheduled for November. Though short-term variances in quarter-over-quarter growth can occur, the substantial year-over-year gains in commercial revenue establish a foundation for a definitive turnaround in Palantir’s revenue structure by 2026.
