BNY Mellon will provide Singapore Gulf Bank with round-the-clock dollar settlement, allowing the bank to process dollar transfers beyond traditional banking hours. The arrangement extends settlement availability to weekends and holidays, addressing timing gaps for a bank serving digital-asset companies and related financial institutions.
BNY extends dollar settlement to 24/7
The service covers dollar settlement; it does not involve issuing a new cryptocurrency or stablecoin. Singapore Gulf Bank will be able to use BNY’s banking infrastructure to arrange dollar settlements 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The institutions have not disclosed which clients will be eligible, whether transaction limits will apply, or whether the service will cover all of Singapore Gulf Bank’s dollar business.
BNY Mellon is a major US custodian bank and financial infrastructure provider, offering custody, payments, cash management and settlement services to financial institutions. Singapore Gulf Bank focuses on digital-asset businesses and related financial services. The arrangement connects a traditional bank’s dollar settlement network with the digital-asset sector’s demand for access to funds around the clock.
Digital-asset firms seek weekend dollar access
Digital-asset markets trade throughout the year, and the funding needs of trading platforms, market makers, custodians and institutional investors do not stop when traditional banks close for the weekend. In the past, dollar transfers outside business hours could have to wait for banking systems to resume processing, potentially affecting collateral top-ups, client redemptions, counterparty settlement and cross-border transfers.
Round-the-clock dollar settlement does not mean every digital-asset transaction will be completed instantly, nor does it remove compliance checks, account permissions or counterparty restrictions. Processing times may still depend on the type of transaction, the client’s location, anti-money-laundering procedures and the arrangements between the parties. BNY and Singapore Gulf Bank have not disclosed transaction volumes, client numbers or the service’s rollout scale.
Scope and usage remain undisclosed
The main potential benefit is a longer window for access to funds and more continuous operations. For digital-asset firms, wider settlement hours could reduce timing mismatches caused by bank closures. Banks, in turn, must manage liquidity, transaction monitoring and risk controls on an ongoing basis.
The information released so far is limited to BNY providing Singapore Gulf Bank with 24/7 dollar settlement. The institutions have not said whether the arrangement will also support tokenized deposits, stablecoins or other blockchain-based settlement tools. For now, the deal is an expansion of banking settlement services, not an endorsement of any particular digital-asset product. Key details still to emerge include eligible clients, supported transaction types and actual settlement data.
