OKX says its proof-of-reserves (PoR) program has reached its fourth anniversary, with $36.36 billion in on-chain assets across 22 cryptocurrencies and reported reserve ratios of at least 100%. The exchange also shared early adoption figures for OKX Shield, an account-protection program launched in the US and Europe. The initiatives address separate concerns: visibility into asset backing and protection against unauthorized account takeovers.
Reported reserve ratios range from 100% to 110%
OKX reported reserve ratios of 110% for Bitcoin (BTC), 100% for Ethereum (ETH), 105% for Tether (USDT) and 101% for USD Coin (USDC). The company says it has published PoR reports monthly since the program began in November 2022 and provides a way for users to verify the information independently.
The process combines publicly viewable on-chain wallet data with cryptographic verification, including zero-knowledge technology known as zk-STARKs. OKX says users can use its tools to check their own assets without disclosing sensitive account information. Regular disclosures and user verification offer a way to assess the assets covered by the reports. The figures, however, apply to the assets and verification scope included in each report; users need to consult the latest report for current details.
Shield adoption grows among European users
OKX Shield launched in the US and Europe in October 2026. The program offers additional protection to eligible users whose accounts are taken over by unauthorized third parties. Subject to the program's terms and eligibility requirements, potential compensation is capped at $500,000, with no additional fee for users. Coverage and compensation conditions remain governed by the program terms.
OKX says that within weeks of launch, nearly 45% of its European VIP clients and more than 21% of daily active users in the region had enabled Shield. More than 37% of customer assets in Europe were covered by the program. Globally, nearly 16% of VIP clients had enabled it. These figures describe adoption among specific user groups; they do not mean that every customer or all assets on the platform are covered.
OKX executives distinguish transparency from account protection
OKX board member and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said PoR focuses on transparency and asset-backing risk, while Shield addresses unauthorized account takeovers. He described the programs as providing, respectively, verifiable reserve information and additional protection for eligible users.
Erald Ghoos, OKX's CEO for Europe, said Shield adoption among European users rose in the weeks after launch and that account-security tools need to be easy to use. The company says its broader security framework includes encryption and access controls, risk-management infrastructure, proactive threat detection and independently verifiable proof of reserves. Users can check asset information in OKX's latest PoR report; Shield protection depends on eligibility and the applicable program terms.
