Sony Group has announced that the global price of the PlayStation 5 will rise again, with the standard edition PS5 in the U.S. market increasing from $549.99 to $649.99. This price hike is due to the sharp increase in the costs of crucial components such as storage chips, putting more pressure on production. This marks the company's second price increase in less than a year.
The price of the PlayStation 5 Pro will rise to $899.99, and the PlayStation Portal remote player will also see an increase from $199.99 to $249.99. Additionally, prices in Europe and Japan will be adjusted accordingly.
Analysts warn that the price increase might negatively affect the gaming console sales market this year, especially given the decline in PS5 sales. According to the latest data, Sony's PS5 sales fell 16% year-over-year during the 2023 holiday season, dropping to 8 million units.
